Happy International Credit Union Day!

Date: 15/10/2023

Description:

Credit unions all over the world ‘give back’ to communities

Queenslanders Credit Union is committed to giving back to our local community in the great global tradition of the international credit union movement.

This Thursday, October 15 is International Credit Union Day, a day celebrated internationally on the third Thursday of October, since its inception in 1948.

“Credit unions are not-for-profit financial cooperatives that provide an effective and viable banking alternative for more than 186 million members in 97 countries worldwide. They exist to serve their members, providing a safe place to save money and access affordable loans,” said Queenslanders Credit Union CEO John Weier.

“Credit unions play a vital role in the economic development and stability of the communities they serve, helping people improve their lives through access to affordable financial services and by supporting their local communities.

“Here at Queenslanders Credit Union, we support a variety of community initiatives, including junior sport development, breast cancer research and awareness, and many community fundraising groups,” said Queenslanders Credit Union CEO John Weier.

“Credit unions are recognised as a force for positive economic and social change and have provided significant social and economic value in both developed and emerging nations.

Queenslanders Credit Union aims to provide the community with outstanding service, excellent products and banking with a conscience,” said Queenslanders Credit Union CEO John Weier.

“Queenslanders Credit Union is a mutual, which means we exist solely for our members – we are not publicly listed so we don’t maximise profits to pay external shareholders – unlike the banks.”

To celebrate International Credit Union Day, Queenslanders Credit Union will be running a Colouring in Competition, hosting a morning tea and ‘giving back’ by offering special gifts to members of the community throughout the day.
