Queenslanders welcomes ASIC advertising proposals

Date: 30/08/2023

Description:

ASIC Chairman Greg Medcraft announced proposed new advertising guidelines for the advertising of financial products and financial advice at a gathering of more than 200 Chairs and CEOs of Australia’s customer-owned banking sector in Sydney today.

Queenslanders provide much-needed competition to the major banks, and deliver the benefits of customer-owned banking to more than 20,000 members.

"20,000 Queenslanders are reaping the benefits of doing their banking with Queenslanders every day. They are not just customers, they own the credit union," said Brett Maunder, Marketing and Communications Manager at Queenslanders.

"We welcome ASIC’s consultation paper, and look forward to ensuring our advertising remains informative and in line with best practice in relation to disclosure of all aspects of our product offering to members.

"Informed consumers are critical to a healthy relationship between a financial institution and our customers, so further oversight of advertising, particularly for complicated products, is very welcome.

"Credit unions like Queenslanders have only one priority – our members. We take great care to fully disclose important information about our products and we are pleased that other parts of the financial services industry will now be held to the same standard," said Mr Maunder.

Today’s forum will cover topics like the promotion of mutual banking; market trends and opportunities; The International Year of the Cooperatives (2012); and innovation in financial services.
