Former directors’ thoughts on the merger

Mr Leo Barcham
Board Director, 1963-1995
Queenslanders Credit Union

I’ve been with Queenslanders from the very beginning, and was in fact the person who first arranged the formation of our credit union. I’ve witnessed Queenslanders go through two successful mergers (with Media Credit Union in 2005 and Discovery in 2007). Each of these mergers has made us a stronger, more competitive and resilient business. I am confident the proposed merger with Queensland Country will be just as successful, while ensuring the continuation of the helpful, personalised service to our members, which has always been at the heart of what we do.

Mr John Brown
Board Director, 2000-2008 (including Chair, 2004-2007)
Discovery Credit Union (then Queenslanders following 2007 merger)

I know of no other matter where the term “bigger is better” is more appropriate. The size of the new mutual will be very attractive to potential members who are are searching for a better banking alternative. With branches throughout the state, the older section of the market will have the opportunity to obtain personalised service as never before. This will also be attractive to those potential members shopping for a new financial service provider.
