How does SmartCash work?

Once your SmartCash application is approved, you may choose to link the facility to your main Action Account or to a sub-account.

You’ll also be given a Queenslanders’ Visa Debit Card. Your Visa Debit card can be used like a credit card: at an ATM; when making purchases over the phone or internet; or when making EFTPOS purchases. These purchases and transactions will be debited to your linked account.

For example…

Let’s say you have a balance of $1,000 in your Action Account and a SmartCash credit limit of $4,000 linked to that account. That means you have access to $5,000 in total

A few days later you see a big screen TV on sale for $3,500 and decide to purchase it and use your Visa Debit Card.

$3,500 in total will be debited from your Action Account as follows:
$1,000 of your own money + $2,500 of your SmartCash credit.
= You still have $1,500 available credit left in your Action Account.

Interest is charged on the $2,500 SmartCash amount you’ve spent and this interest is debited from your account at the end of the month.

Let’s say a fortnight later you deposit $2,500 into your account. This amount will repay your SmartCash debt, so interest will no longer be charged to your account. And best of all – you have access to your $4,000 SmartCash credit limit again.

You choose how much or how little you want to repay, however, we suggest you make regular repayments.

And remember, your SmartCash is always there in your account waiting for you, but if you’re not using your SmartCash facility, you’re not being charged any interest.
