Queenslanders Credit Union

NetBanking Security explained

We take on-line security very seriously and can assure you that we endeavour to have the latest security measures in place to protect you when you use NetBanking.

What security does Queenslanders Credit Union’s NetBanking include?

  • 128-bit encryption
  • SSL (Secure Socket Layer)
  • Firewalls

128-bit encryption is the level of ‘encryption’ that is made to any information or transaction entered via NetBanking. Encrypted transactions are ‘scrambled’ to protect the security of the data. Queenslanders encrypts your personal data using 128-bit SSL (Secure Socket Layer) encryption technology. You can identify whether the NetBanking session is secure or encrypted when you see https:// in the address bar. Once you have logged into NetBanking you are in a completely encrypted environment. 128-bit encryption is currently the highest level of encryption available on the Internet.

128 bit encryption does three main things.

  • Ensures all information is encrypted so no user on another computer can see or interpret a member’s information.
  • Ensures no other person can ‘break in’ to a member’s active session and pretend they are the member.
  • Ensures no other server can pretend to be the NetBanking server.

Firewalls:
A firewall is a program, located at a computer, which protects a network from users outside the network. It is like a quarantine station, watching traffic running you’re your computer from the Internet and blocks anything it considers undesirable. Queenslanders’ NetBanking is situated behind a firewall to add further security to the overall system.

Anyone connected to the Internet, especially by a broadband service should have a firewall running on their machine.
