QUEENSLANDERS MESSAGE TO BANKS – "DEAR JOHN – IT’S OVER!"

Disgruntled mortgage holders are being encouraged to download one of a series of ‘Dear John’ letters, available from the Queenslanders Credit Union’s website, and send or email the messages to their Bank Manager.

It’s all part of a novel way for mortgage holders to send a clear message to the ‘big four banks’.

Queenslanders have conveniently provided a farewell message to suit everyone’s personality, including a heartfelt ‘Dear John’ letter, a lesson drawing on the wisdom of Yoda, and a swashbuckling pirate demand for a greater share of the bounty.

Queenslanders Credit Union CEO John Weier said it was about time people let their bank manager know how they really feel.

“Looking at the ANZ’s and the Commonwealth Bank’s conduct of late – you’d think they’ve been getting customer care pointers from Barbara the Bank Manager,” he said.

“While the novelty ‘goodbye’ letters are all a bit of harmless fun, what the banks have done to their mortgage customers is not funny.

“We expect that mortgage holders will be laughing all the way to the Credit Union when they see what we’ve got to offer.”

The quirky letter drive comes after recent announcements by the Commonwealth Bank and ANZ to raise their variable mortgage rates by .45 percent and .39 percent respectively.

Mr Weier said Queenslanders Credit Union would be raising its rates by just .25 percent – matching the RBA’s official rate increase.

“We’re encouraging people to just ask the question – they might be surprised about the options available to them through credit union’s like Queenslanders,” he said.

“Mortgage holders do have a choice and switching mortgage providers may not be as hard as it first seems.”

Mr Weier said his Credit Union had been looking after Queenslanders for a little under 50 years.

“We were founded during similar market conditions to what home owners are experiencing today,” he said.

“People power opened our doors and people power is the only thing that will send a clear message to the bosses of ANZ, CBA and any other bank who choose to act in such an un-Australian way.”
